My Meeting with Senator Merkley

As the newly elected National Western Region Vice President, I was granted the amazing opportunity of attending National Officer training in Reston, Virginia, home of the FBLA National Center. Besides working on completing the National Program of Work (POW), we learned more about the organization’s procedures and past programs.

Part of our experience in Virginia included visits with our congressmen and senators. During my meeting with Senator Merkley, he kindly invited me to a breakfast for constituents where he explained some of the projects he is currently working on. After breakfast, he met the entire officer team.

When speaking with Senator Merkley, we discussed where I was from and other activities I participated in, as well as the Carl Perkins Act. It was truly amazing to have such a personal conversation with the Senator. At the end of our meeting, we took a picture with Senator Merkely and his staff member in charge of advocating for the Carl Perkins Act.

It was a great honor to represent Oregon FBLA and meet with Senator Merkley about the importance of Career and Technical Education.
