Oregon FBLA Shines at National Leadership Conference

185 of Oregon’s top business education students recently returned from an eventful week at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. The week was full of fun, learning, and networking! The entire state delegation traveled to the famous Universal Studios in Hollywood for the annual State Day and enjoyed a day of fun in the sun together.

During the event Oregon’s top competitors showcased their skills in 60 different competitive events. When not competing, members visited the FBLA MarketPlace, attended workshops led by industry experts and FBLA leaders, participated in a Mini March for Babies in support of FBLA’s service partner the March of Dimes, and visited exhibit booths of FBLA’s partners. Anytime members could find a little downtime between all the events, they found themselves drawn to world famous Disneyland for some more fun.

State President Melody Lindorf presented the State of the State Report to all Western Region members, highlighting the successes in Oregon in the past year. Oregon FBLA saw Parker Snook elected to the position of FBLA National Western Region Vice President for the 2013-2014 year. After a lot of hard work, Parkers preparations and campaigning for national office paid off! Oregon was also excited to see its own CJ Severson end his term as FBLA National Treasurer for the 2012-2013 year. CJ was in a serious accident two years ago, the results of which have left him partially paralyzed and needing the use of a wheel chair. When he was elected he promised the members of FBLA that he would stand on stage for his farewell as a national officer. CJ kept his promise and stood on stage during his farewell speech to the members. What a tremendous experience to be able to share that accomplishment with him!

22 competitors from Oregon FBLA placed in the top ten in their events and Oregon was a national champion in four events. Oregon FBLA also had the honor of receiving 1st place in the Business Achievement Award challenge for the entire nation.

Spending the week in Anaheim for the National Leadership Conference was an experience of a lifetime for every member of Oregon FBLA!
