To tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to be an Oregon FBLA State Officer at first. The whole idea seemed kind of scary to me especially since I hadn’t done anything even close to that in my life. But, soon after becoming the Vice President of Media, I saw that this was a decision I would never regret! In just the few months I have been a State Officer I have found that with great power comes not only great responsibility but great perks as well. A couple of these perks are obvious ones, such as the huge boost of college credits Officers get from Concordia and the leadership experience Officers accrue over their time in office. Those are just the tip of the iceberg, though!
While being a State Officer, I have experienced many things; but I would like to start off with my favorite: THE FOOD! You will live like a king if you become a State Officer—well, if kings ate at restaurants. The next perk is traveling and meeting new people! Officers travel to different events, to meetings, and even to the Capitol! That is when we meet some interesting people whether they are members from FBLA events, movie stars at our meetings, or our State Representatives. My most memorable time is getting to meet Olivia Wilde, Jeff Goldblum, and the rest of the cast from Portlandia, especially because we might even be in the background of the TV show’s next season! Yet another perk of being a State Officer is having a family away from home that you build so many memories with; the time you spend with them is the most fun you will ever have!
So, if you are a person who likes to eat food, travel to different places, meet interesting and famous people, and have a family away from home, then being a State Officer is the thing for you! Those are not the only perks, but I will leave it up to you to find out the rest when you become a State Officer!
